I awake with a gasp, showing fear in my eyes.
The beast has returned, as my hair starts to rise.
That sound is outside, it scratches and claws.
The pecking, and pounding, as it tests all the walls.
It titters and giggles, mocking my pain.
How much more to endure, my life gone insane.
But my fear gives way to a hard boiling rage.
The strength of the demon, soon I will gauge.
I’ve beat you before and will do so again.
Must act now before my courage grows thin.
There is no one but me, I must do this alone.
While the monster it sits upon an uncaring throne.
The taunts that it hurls, soon take to flight.
The scream that it ushers, turns day into night.
I lash out in fear as the madness draws near.
To keep safe my mind, the one thing I hold dear.
The agony is real as my knuckles strike home.
I’ve beat you again, where now will you roam?
The light returns with a harsh blinding glare.
Thru the veil of my sanity, this beast it did tear.
A mirror hangs low, showing my face.
At the enemy I fought, there is nary a trace.
But that smile makes me run, I don’t want to see.
That the monster I fight, is hiding in me.
