Who knows what mysteries lie in complacent repose,
Beneath the surface, turbulent strife
The demons of life layered in wait,
Who knows the terror awake, the surface to break?
You left too soon.
We were not aware,
Slumbering innocence secure
The demon beneath in private urgency break,
To take you away.
You left too soon.
What course would we take in mindful concern,
To stop your journey before to begin?
How deep the resolve to make you aware,
What wouldn’t we do to stay your retreat,
To calm your troubled soul?
You left too soon.
Too late our regret, our senses revealed,
Our sorrow too deep – our neglect unfurled,
Life starts again absent a soul –
Could we have done something?
You left too soon.
Reveal to us in slumber eternal reside
What can we do, what face to put on sorrow abide
Or in sufferance delay?
Will life go on, will conscience permit
A treasure to shine for time sublime
Until we meet eternity defined?
You left too soon.
Farewell dear friend,
You left too soon – left us behind
Can we catch up?
Have pity, we failed to find the torment beneath that took you away.
You left too soon.

“We were not aware,
Slumbering innocence secure”
That’s a great line. A much better take on “Ignorance is bliss.” I’m into this!
