When you love someone
And they love you
You tend to let your mind flow
To the beat of their heart
Scholl not in mind
Just thinking
Until you snap into reality
People yelling
Suddenly school matters more
“Nothing under a B”
Is what mama says
The tears run their tracks, somehow knowing
That you got lower than required
Things disappear from your life
Sports who?
Phone who?
Life falls out of place.
But still
The fear remains
Does he love me?
Does he not?
Do my grades matter to him?
Because I am afraid to lose him, my one first love
Because I’m failing,
But still love him.
I need to focus though.
More important…
To my mom anyway
Because to me,
I can’t choose
Which I would rather do
Well in school
Or loving him.

Thanks for your lovely replies! I love all your work! I think this poem grapples with problems facing a lot of students. And to answer what is probably a rhetorical question at the end is that you shouldn’t have to choose. If your significant other doesn’t care about something that is so important to you, maybe they don’t care about you as a holistic person. Once again, I hope that this is not real but if it is, do you and someone who loves you and all your qualities will come along. Keep writing !!
Thank you soo very much, your comments are so kind!!1
