Don’t Leave Me
By:Gen1900
It was in the evening when Dad visited me in the hospital. I was feeling worse but the doctors could only do so much. It was only a matter a time before I closed my eyes and drifted off to a forever peaceful sleep.
He had a tiny chocolate cake for me in a cup which had M & M’s formed into a little smiley face on top of it.
“How you feeling?” he asked setting the tray on the nightstand.
I only moaned in agony.
“Would this treat cheer you up?” he said placing the cake in front of my weak sight.
“I-I-” I stammered.
“It’s okay, honey, maybe you can eat it later, ” he whispered with his eyebrows knitting in concern.
“Don’t worry your cancer is going to get better, ” he said placing his rough hand over my pale one.
My heart began to slow into a pace that was not normal and I knew deep down…this was it….this was it. I started to panic.
“Dad, hold MY HAND! HOLD MY HAND!” I cried with painful coughs escaping me.
A doctor and a nurse came into the room with an oxygen mask ready to go over my face.
“DADDY! PINKY SWEAR YOU WON’T LEAVE ME! DON’T GO!” I wheezed.
“I’m here , honey, I’m here. It will be alright…it will be alright.” he repeated over and over again with tears streaming down his face.
My last words to my Daddy were, “Promise me…promise you won’t leave me.”
Then I left him to join the Creator up above.
