I tried on Society
I tried it on for size and
Ill fitting you were
Speaking kindly
You’re all just actors acting
For whose satisfaction?
All of you on the stage
Then I should be too?
I’d exit that stage left
To a happy life I made
Where my skies always blue
For I don’t live to satisfy you
I won’t sweep the floor
If it need not to be swept
Never sweeping away my dreams
So society’s needs are met
They live to control and conform
For their definition
Of what is considered the norm
People following it become infected
Solely to gain recognition
Longing to be accepted
People ignorantly ask me
With expressions that come dirty
Are you happy
just being a bartender
in your thirties?
Skeptical to judge
What they couldn’t themselves
Bring to light
Although to them I look misguided
It’s them who are stuck
In the dark and blinded
Misunderstood I am by then
When people question my goals again
Offended I feel answering bluntly
I don’t follow the typical plan
I’m truly happy being who I am
Quickly they express shock and fear
When I turn to ask them being sincere
So are you happy in life and your career?
