Chapter 1
“It will be alright..” I said under my breath, as I got up to get dressed for my first day of school. I went into my closet and grabbed a purple hoodie, dark blue skinny jeans, and matching purple converse. I brushed my hair into a lazy ponytail, grabbed my bag and ran down the stairs. I peered into the kitchen, hoping my dad would still be asleep. As I turned around to head for the door, I saw a huge figure towering above me. Of course, it’s my dad. I felt a chill run down my spine as I slowly made eye contact with him. My dad and I have been living together since my mom passed away. I was 6 when her and I got held up at gunpoint by some thug who wanted my moms purse. She made me run away while she tried to fight him off. I don’t remember much of that night, but, all I heard was a gunshot and that was that. My parents were divorced, but, I had to stay with my dad since then. He never liked me, he wished I was never born and blamed me for moms death. He gave me an irritated glare, “What are you doing sneaking around?” I quickly walked past him and headed for the door, “I’m going to school, don’t wanna be late on my first day.” I nervously waved ‘bye’ and closed the door behind me. I could feel his cold eyes staring me down through the window. It didn’t take me long to find my way to school. A few moments later, I arrived at the front of the school and walked up the stairs. It was a huge school, the hallways seemed like they went on for miles. With students and teachers coming from every direction, I instantly got sucked up into the hustle and bustle of the crowds. I followed the crowd into the gym to grab my first semesters schedule.
1st: Math
2nd: History
3rd: P.E
4th: English
Study Hall/ Lunch
5th: Science
6th: World Geography
I sighed as I looked over my classes. Math and English were do-able, but the rest were going to be the death of me, especially P.E. I was never much of a sporty girl, always into art and music, not sweating. I arrived at my first class, “Okay, Math, let’s get this over with.” I walked in and sat in the middle. Not too close, not too far. All of the surrounding seats started to fill up as the teacher walked in. He looked nice enough, hopefully. His short, spiked up black hair brought out his dark blue eyes, his facial hair matched perfectly with his model structured jaw line and cheek bones. He walked to the front of the class, “Okay class, grab a seat and quiet down. For the first day we will just relax and get to know each other.” I buried my face in my hands, I hate the ‘get-to-know-each-other’ bullshit teachers pull on the first day back. It just gives people more reasons to fuck with you through the school year. Great. First day at a new school and everyone needs to ‘know me’. “Okay my name is Adam James, and I was born and raised here. I am 27, married,
and have two kids.” As he was going on about his life, time seemed to pass slowly, and my mind started drifting off.
As I was looking around the room, I made sudden eye contact with this guy a few seats away.
He had jet black hair that slightly covered his eyes and very pale skin. He looked at me for a few seconds before he smiled at me, and turned his attention back to our rambling teacher. I was still looking at him though. Why was he staring at me like that ? Was there something on me ? Is my hair a mess ? Oh well, who knows, he probably wasn’t even looking at me. The loud ringing of the school bell made me jump back into reality, then I hopped from my seat and hurried to my next class. I walked in and saw a short Hispanic woman sitting on her desk. I assume she’s our teacher. This time I decided to sit at the end row next to the window, just in case class bores me there’s always something going on outside. I noticed this really preppy chick walk in, she had a waterfall of blonde hair flowing behind her.
She had on a pink skirt, light blue shirt, matching pink jacket, pink heels, and even pink lip gloss. This girl was like walking cotton candy. She sat in the seat in front of me and quickly spun around, facing me. “Hi, new girl. I’m Amy, you’re Madison, right ?” She sat her purse on my desk, “Yeah, I’m Madison, how did you know that ?” She started taking things out of her purse. Finger nail polish, a hair brush, hair pins, and her phone. “I know things, so don’t worry about how I already heard of you.” I must admit, I was curious though. She put the brush and hair pins back in her purse and sat her bag on her lap. “May I paint your nails ?” Her phone vibrated and lit up. Her phone’s wallpaper was a picture of her and the guy I saw in math class. “Hey, he’s in my first class.” She checked her message, “That’s my older brother. His name is Vick.” She put the phone to the side and I put my hands out in front of her. “You can paint my nails, by the way.” She smiled from ear to ear, “Oh yay!” We talked for the rest of the class.
Second period went by pretty fast. Amy ran up behind me and asked what class I had next. “P.E.” I said, sadly. She laughed, “So do I! Come on, we’ll go together!” She grabbed my wrist and ran towards the gym. When we walked into the gym, she pointed to the right, “Look.” I looked over and noticed she saw her brother who was walking towards us. “Hey sis.” He smirked and ran his fingers through his hair. “Hey, so we have this class together, huh ?” He nodded and looked over at me. “Hey newbie. How’s school going for you ?” He gave me that same smile as before, for some reason I could feel my face getting red. Now that I have a closer look at him, he’s a total cutie.
“Uh…” I couldn’t even speak. I was speechless because of his looks. I could feel Amy tugging on my arm.
“Madison ? Are you okay ? Are you overwhelmed by how emo my brother looks ? He can look a little scary sometimes, I know.” She giggled as he gave her a death glare. “I’m not emo, I just prefer the darker things in life.” Well, he was right. A black t-shirt, black pants, and black high tops. His light green eyes and pale skin is all that was bright on him. He leaned his head down, allowing his silky black hair to fall in front of his face, then he smiled at me, and turned around to walk back to his buddies. Did I make it obvious that I thought he was totally hot ? Oh well, I just want P.E to be over with.
The rest of the day went by pretty fast as well. Amy wrote down her phone number on every inch of both of my arms, just to make sure I didn’t forget to text her when I got home. Well, I guess today wasn’t too bad. I made a friend who has a gorgeous brother. Maybe moving here was a good thing. Now, if only I can live with my dad for 1 more year without killing myself, things might be okay.

“Amy wrote down her phone number on every inch of both of my arms, just to make sure I didn’t forget to text her when I got home.” – This line says so much about her personality!
