As I walked along the deserted beach early that Sunday morning, the clouds covered the sun and made it a gloomy morning. I stepped on something hard and cold. I groaned in pain and dropped to my knees on the soft sand. I looked at my foot and ensured I wasn’t bleeding. i looked down at the culprit and discovered it was an old rusted metal box. Aside from the worry of possibly needing a tetanus shot, curiosity overcame me. I dug the box out of the sand. It appeared to be a very small tool box. i brushed the loose sand off of the box and opened it. There was an old yellow piece of paper folded up inside. I unfolded the piece of paper carefully as it was quite worn from what appeared to be water. I got the paper unfolded and to my surprise I recognized the handwriting. It was familiar, because it was my own. It was a letter I had written to my fiancé, Eric, who was serving in the Navy. He was in a special service that denied him the ability to discuss with me where he was going, what he was doing, or even replying to letters from home. I received a knock on my front door a few years ago. When I opened the door I discovered 2 men in navy uniforms holding a folded flag and wearing frowns on their faces. I knew what they were there to tell me. My fiancé was gone. I read over the letter and started to sob. I started to fold the letter back when I realized there was writing on the back. I turned over the piece of paper and in big letters it read “I love you more.” I held the letter to my heart and looked up to the sky, all of the sudden the clouds rolled away exposing the sun to shine down on me. At that moment I knew my Eric had been watching over me.

I’m assuming this is a true story just by the tone of this piece. Even if it isn’t, sometimes the smallest moments make the biggest impact, and they can’t be explained by mere coincidences.
