They say some things improve with age-
Like whiskey, cheese and wine…
And that might make a difference,
If all you do is dine.
But when it comes to life itself-
As years race swiftly by…
It seems that age just sets the stage,
Preparing you to die.
Reminisces and regrets
Oft occupy the mind-
When staring at old photographs-
That in your stuff you find.
Or thoughts and recollections-
Of good times that you’ve had.
That make old times seem better-
And gloss over the bad.
I call myself a realist-
And firmly stand opposed…
To those who live in fairy tales,
Ignoring worldly woes.
I plan to die the way I’ve lived-
Head up and standing proud.
While years have taken quite a toll-
My head is yet unbowed.
