Daddy’s Girl
By:Gen1900
“Will you dance with me?” asked Dad who reached out his hand for the bride to take.
He knew this was his last time to be with his little girl before she blossomed into a wife and mother. His heart melted in pain at the thought of no more, “Kiss me goodnight, Daddy” or “Stop teasing me!” But although he was sad, he hoped the best for his daughter.
He led her out onto the dance floor that shimmered in lily white lights as a soft melody played in the background. The song was something his daughter, Agnes, composed for the wedding. She was a talented musician who always had the knack to write beautiful pieces.
The song went:
Daddy, you’ve always been there…
You’ve put up with my teenage attitudes that you managed to always bear;
I’ll never leave you, Daddy, even though I’m going away.
Because you’re in my heart forever and that is where you’ll stay;
I’m Daddy’s little……girl.
Agnes laid her head on his shoulder as they slowly stepped back and forward to the music. Her husband watched in the distance, sipping champagne.
” How gorgeous she looked,” thought her Dad.
Nearing the end of the song, Agnes noticed two tears rolling down her Father’s face.
“You okay?” she asked staring into his swimming blue eyes.
“Y….es, “he replied choking on his words.
“Hey, it’ll be alright. I’m not going away forever,” she said soothingly.
“My daughter is so grown up. Where did the time go?” he said almost whispering.
“You sound like Mom. Just remember….I’ll always be your little girl. No matter if I’m married and have children. Got it?”
He nodded yes and they waltzed until the last lyrics ceased.
