Lonely Hearts: Part Two
By: Gen1900
After sitting too long at my computer, I decided to head out to grab a cup of coffee.
My mind still whirled about me in stunned-mode. A guy wanted my advice and to meet with me?! How exciting . . . how risk taking.
The smile I wore before drooped into a frown. I had seen too much of this kind of story on the news. Girl meets boy online, turns out the boy is fifty instead of nineteen.
So maybe I shouldn’t even feel happy about the idea?
Changing into fashionable jeans, t-shirt, and styled my hair into a bun, I headed outside.
The hustle-bustle happenings of New York rushed around me like a gust of wind. People walked briskly passed me; some having a conference on their phone, or stuffing a quick doughnut into their mouths.
I breathed in the air with a sense of relief. It had been awhile since I ventured into the open. Huddling in my apartment like a hermit wasn’t the best option.
I spotted a Star Bucks on the corner of West 23rd street, smelling the delicious odor of just-brewed lattes, and baking pastries.
The line at the cashier was always long, and I, along with the other sleep-deprived robots, waited somewhat patiently.
Finally I ordered black coffee, a tempting danish, and found a booth. I chose near the window, because then you could see folks leading more sociable lives than you wouldn’t think possible.
Suddenly a deep accented voice erupted my day-dreams.
“May I have a seat? I’m afraid there are no more free spaces.”
I looked up to find a tall man smiling at me.
