“Can you just get out?” I open the door.
“I’ll get out when you tell me what’s wrong?” Greg grabs his clothes, hanging them back in the closet.
I take a deep breath. “We have had this same conversation over and over. I’m just done.”
“What you mean? You must have been listing to your friends again, you tripping.” He says slamming the door.
“Listening to my friends? I have the proof right here?” I say holding up the phone. “What are all these pictures and texts in your phone, huh? How long has this been going on.”
He scratches his head. “That was Chris? He wasn’t trying to get caught up with his girl, so I let him use my phone.”
“Do you really think I’m an idiot? Chris is using your phone for his cheating and you think that’s okay?”
“What that got to do with you and me though?” He raises his voice. “I don’t want to lose you, so why would I go and do something as foolish as that, knowing that this girl knows your friends? Wouldn’t that be like setting myself up?” He attempts to grab my hand, but I pull away.
“Exactly, if you knew I would see something like this in your phone, why would you even allow Chris to do this bullshit in your phone.” I throw the phone at his chest, and he catches it.
He steps closer to me. “Honestly, how could I come to you when I’m doing Chris a solid, knowing his girlfriend is your friend. I’m already in this mess, I didn’t want to pull you in too.”
I close my eyes tight. “That’s an even better reason for you to have said no. So now what, Chris has you in hot water? Christina and I both deserve better than you two.”
“I’m still not seeing what I did wrong. It sounds to me that you wouldn’t believe me regardless.” He drops his head. “I’m always the bad guy.”
“Just cut the shit! This sounds like a lie; you just need to go!”
“So you’re just going to give up on us that easy? What, you don’t love me anymore?”
“You gave up on us a long time ago. I’m tired of trying.”
“It seems like since the first time I messed up, you never let me live it down. The slightest thing happens, and you blame me for cheating. Your friends won’t be happy until your single just like them.” He says
“If you knew I still had some trust issues, why would you bring some mess like this into our relationship.” I raise my voice. “And don’t say anything about my friends, they were there to wipe the tears away that you caused.”
“They might have been there for you, but they are causing more harm to our relationship than good. You’re like their little soap opera, they like egging on new drama for their entertainment. Name one bit of good advice they gave you about us.”
“Well they told me I shouldn’t have got with you in the first place.” I saw with folded arms.
“So just like that huh, you’re done?”
“I’m tired of fighting a never-ending battle.”
“You give up once we finally start building a life together. You are what we call a coward, giving up when things get tough. So, you can have your friends. I hope they can be a better partner for you than I was.”
“Well at least I know they wouldn’t break my heart as much as you have these last five years.”
Defeated, he walks to the door, grabbing both of his bags. “Sorry I couldn’t be perfect enough for you.”
“I never asked you to be perfect, I just asked you to be gentle with my heart.”
