Chapter 8: Scholarship
Today I couldn’t focus. Usually I wrote and wrote until the end of class, but I guess I was just out of juice. I guess I’m going through writer’s block. I don’t know why; the craziest things are happening in my life. Why can’t I just think of something, anything.
My brain was stuck. I stared at my screen thinking. I would write stuff like “one day” or “once in a lifetime a” and then I would just press the back button.
This day’s topic was adventure. I guess with my life being lazy there’s nothing to really write about. I mean yesterday I finished my story for yesterday which was fantasy. So why can’t I do it right know.
The whole class I think I was just thinking about Riley. He talked to me! And he knew my name! Well I mean he should since were on the same team together but still. I don’t know why I’m so head over heels for him, but I don’t care.
He’s so sweet and kind. I mean he cares about people. And he’s on the swim team, like he’s kind of perfect. And I won’t even talk about his hair. His eyes. His… oh wow okay I’m getting a little ahead of myself right know.
As I started to pack up to go to lunch, I kept thinking of how I could get nothing done.
“So, Alex, is everything okay? I could tell you didn’t write anything today.” Ms. Fillpot interrupted me while I was putting my computer away.
“oh, yeah, I guess I couldn’t think of anything to write. Writers block you know?” I answered in a dreary tone.
“Don’t worry, it happens to everyone.” she said trying to reassure me.
“I hope so.”
“So, I read your story you gave me yesterday.” she told me trying to change the subject,” it was really good.”
“thanks.” I said giving out a smile.
~RING~
As people were running and crowding around the door, I could tell Ms. Fillpot wanted to tell me something. She waved her hand towards her face, which told me to lean closer.
“Don’t tell anyone, but you’re one of my best students. Your work is incredible. Now I only give this prize to honor students, but I think I’m going to do a contest for a scholarship. Would you be interested?”
Um… Wow!! Who wouldn’t take this opportunity?
“Yeah! Totally! What would I have to do?”
“you would need to write a story about a personal experience, well more like a book.”
“I’ll think about it! Thank you so much!”
I ran out of the classroom to get lunch in time before they run out of food. I should go over to Boston’s table and drop t stuff off and wait till the line gets shorter. It was easy to see since there was not crowds of people. I scan across the lunchroom looking for Boston’s table, or just Boston.
After about a long 10 seconds of trying to find Boston, I suddenly saw him jumping up and down trying to get my attention. I waved to him and started to walk over. I wasn’t watching where I was going. I was just so excited to tell him about my scholarship! And about how Riley talked to me today! You can probably guess what happens.
I tripped. As you can’t tell already, I’m super clumsy. Anyways, I tripped on the floor, the gross floor. And I kid you not, it was disgusting. I had second lunch and I promise you the janitor doesn’t care about cleaning up. I swear everyone was staring at me.
Boston walked over with a grin on his face. I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
“It’s okay to laugh.” I said while Boston reached out his hand to pick me up, “thanks.”
“No problemo,” he said with a smirk,” you look nice today.”
“Thanks. Speaking of today, I have something I have to tell you!’’
“Actually, I do too…” he said while we walked over to the table. “You can go first.”
“okay well its actually two things. Number one, Mrs. Fillpot gave me an opportunity of a scholarship!
“A scholarship! That’s amazing,” he replied not believing what I said!
“And number two, Riley talked to me today! And Isabella was watching the whole time and I could tell she was jealous! I know that we’ve only talked a few times, but I feel like I’ve started something. You know?!” I rushed trying to all my words out, “Anyways, what did you want to tell me?”
“Oh, never mind.”
“What? you can tell me.”
“I forgot what I was going to say.” He cleared his throat,” so tell me more about this scholarship.”
“oh, well I’m not one hundred percent sure I’m going to take it.”
“What! Why not? You’re an amazing writer!”
“I don’t know.” I shrugged,” I’m gonna go get some food.”
“Okay… I’ll be here.”
I went up to go into the main line. Looks like it’s pasta. As I wait in line, I thought of Boston’s reaction. I mean he reacted to my scholarship, but not about the Riley thing. I wonder what he wanted to tell me. Eh. Whatever. The more I thought about it, scholarship might be hard to do. I mean, I wasn’t able to write today, who says I’ll be able to write a whole story?
