Chapter 4: Family dinner
When we got home, I took my cookie dough shake and fries down stairs to my room. I ended up getting some fries. I was really tired, so I finish my food while I watch my favorite show, Gilmore Girls, then went to sleep. Took a little nap. Well wasn’t very little. For some context, I got home at some time close to 1:00pm. Fell asleep at about 2:00pm. And I woke up just in time for the family dinner that was at 6:15pm.
My dad had to come into my room and wake me up. I was out of it. He told me that my sister was going to tell us something and to put something on special on. Huh… strange. I look threw my closet. Found a dress and hurried to put it on. To fast though, I feel in the process… Wow twice in a day, fun.
I dress I jumped into was pretty but simple. It was a white tank top dress that flowed out by the waste down to my knees with orange and yellow flowers all over it. I paired it with my jean jacket and black converse. Like I said simple but cute.
I run upstairs just as Tylie’s boyfriend was walking into the door. Oh, looks like he will be joining us tonight.
“Hey, Daxton, I didn’t know you were coming tonight.” I told him as we walked to the dinner table.
“Well, me and your sister have news.” he smiled at Tylie, “So Mr. Bowen, what’s on the menu tonight?”
“Chicken Alfredo with green beans and a green salad.” he brought the food to the table, “and because it’s a special occasion, I made dessert.”
We have six sits at the table, I sat on the left side by James. Daxton and Tylie sat on the right side, and my mom and dad sat on the ends.
“Mom, dad. Um… try outs are tomorrow.” he told us.
“For what?” Dax asked right before taking passing the salad to my mom.
“Hairspray, one of the musicals we’re doing this year. I’m trying out for link, or if I feel up to it Edna.”
“Well, break a leg.” Dax took a bite of his food, “Mm… this is really good!”
“Thank you, my own recipe.”
“Can I have it?”
“I would love to give you it!”
“So, what did you do today Alex?” Tylie asked.
“Um… nothing.” I wasn’t going to tell her I got into a fight on my first day back to school after the break. She counts on me to be a good person.
“Nothing? Nothing happened?” My dad repeated, “Alex got into her first fight.”
My sister choked one her drink, “What! Are you okay? Whoever hurt you ill kick their…”
“I started it.” I interrupted her.
“Oh…” she said disappointed.
Um… great. My sister is mad! Why did my dad have to bring it up? I mean, that’s why I said nothing happened. Take a hint dad!
“Well, did you win?” James asked me.
“James? Come on.” My mom replied for me.
“I kind of won, but I don’t really want to talk about it right now.” I explained. “So, what did you guys need to tell us?”
Daxton and Tylie looked at each other. Dax nodded.
“So, mom, dad. You know we’re both going to college next year to study the same thing, so to make it easier, we were thinking of moving in with each other in an apartment by the campus.”
There was an awkward silence for about ten seconds, it felt like forever though. My dad was actually the first to talk.
“Are you guys sure you’ve talked about this enough? I mean the money, your families, jobs?” my dad said with a bit of anger.
“What if you guys break up? Have a fight? What will you do then?” my mom followed.
“Mom don-” Tylie said before being interrupted.
“No, I can worry about this, I’m your mother. You’re too young.” she yelled
“mom, I’m not a kid anymore!’’
As they started raising their voices at her. Me and James looked at each other. Great to fights in one day. I thought today was going to be fun. My Best friend hates me now, my sister is mad at me, and my mom and dad hate my sister…
James whispered into my ear, “Let’s let them be, come with me.”
I followed him outside to his car. It was dark, and cold. But anyplace was better than being inside with my parents while they fought.
“Sorry about that, you probably don’t know this yet but Tylie and mom don’t have such a good relationship. She thinks mom should be here around more and doesn’t like how she kind of has to be the second mom.”
“oh…” I said looking down at my hand that were on my lap.
“What happened with that fight today? Something to keep your mind off of this.”
The rest of the night was explaining my day and how it was amazing then bad, and then he talked about it too. We almost forgot about what was going inside. We pause for one second after James talked for a bit and then we heard a yell saying, “And I don’t intend coming back.”
“We’ll we weren’t invited anyways!” Followed by huge slam from the door.
We saw Tylie pacing out as fast as she could, “Thanks for inviting us Mrs. Bowen…” Daxton told my mom nicely. He brought a bag that he didn’t bring it him here. He started the car and left with her…
“Well I think it’s time to go to bed.”
“Good idea.”
