The Boundary: Chapter Three
By: Gen1900
My skin prickled as the guard shoved us in view of the Headquarters. The boy, Falcon, barely glanced at the huge ware house that looked cruel in the hot rays of the sun.
It didn’t have the appearance of the President’s home, but it definitely carried a sense of supreme authority. It’s black walls were guarded by soldiers wearing the same color.
“Move it!” our guard barked.
We slowly walked forward to the iron doors. Two soldiers swung them open, and ushered us in the air conditioned room.
Everywhere were men and women dressed in lab coats; many stationed at high-tech computers. They had the title of the President’s minions.
A lady of my Mom’s age came up to me and extended her hand for me to shake.
“Hello, what’s your name?” she asked sweetly.
“Pepper, ” I mumbled.
She had her lab coat unbuttoned, revealing a mournful black dress. Her dirty blond hair was snatched up in a messy bun. Sharp gray glasses remained on the edge of her rather large nose.
“Are you guys ready to begin training?” she said.
“Yes, they are, ” said our guard, answering for us.
“Well, before they do, our President has decided to give the new trainees a speech in Section D of the building.”
She led us through mazes of stacked crates; her high heels clicked loudly on the floor as she walked.
“You may leave their side, Officer Blunt, ” commanded the scientist.
Officer Blunt nodded, turned around, and left.
We came into a crowded gathering of kids. All of the older teens stood in the farthest corner of the room with their eyes staring down at the concrete floor.
I mechanically went over to them, instead of hanging with the young children. Falcon trailed behind me.
One of the boys in the group looked up. His shaggy brown hair fell over part of his eye.
“What’s the President going to be talking about?” I asked him.
“Oh, you know, the usual, ” the boy grumbled.
A girl, who later introduced herself as Tricity, snapped, ” How we are apart of some great mission to save the world from the sickies outside the boundary.”
Falcon suddenly piped up, ” You guys have no clue about the truth.”
We all stared at him in disbelief.
“You know why their doing this?” I inquired curiously.
All he said was a simple,” Yes.”
