“What am I doing here? Why am I meeting a complete stranger?” these are the thoughts that went through her mind as she walked toward the coffee shop. Beth had not dated anyone seriously since she broke up with Ken. He had been nice, but they just hadn’t clicked. He was ready to settle down, have children. And while Beth wanted those things, she just wasn’t sure she was ready for them. Then there was Brad… don’t even get her started on him. She had dated Brad right out of high school; at first he had been kind and sweet, then as she got more comfortable with him, he had let his true colors show. Still it took dating the guy and almost marrying him before Beth realized that not only were they not a match for one another but that Brad was a self obsorbed, selfish, abusive, manchild. To say that dating Brad had left Beth with some anxiety is putting it way too lightly. After they broke up Beth struggled with self love, self care, and just feeling unworthy. But she had worked past it right? she new she had come a long way but she was still scared of making a mistake again. That was why she had agreed to coffee at Mike’s Coffee Place, she was forcing herself to step a little outside her box and take a small chance. “What could happen?” thats what Beth thought as she stood outside the coffee shop waiting for Suraj. Beth had met him on a dating site and after asking her several times she finally agreed to a coffee date, in a public place, with plenty of people around.
