Sorry, wasn’t listening.
Pulled in by the lull
of quiet thoughts brooding.
Sorry I’m staring off.
Eyes are glazing over.
Put a closed sign in the window, tuned out time –
I know she’s getting older.
Hell, is the music too loud?
Indie mix, Jazzy blues.
My lips keep humming notes –
Sorry won’t get ’em soundproofed.
Sorry won’t stop dancing.
There was an earthquake overnight.
Aftershocks of my heart beating,
Damage leavin’
jagged rhythms and sparking power lines.
Sorry won’t stop breathing.
I could hear you beggin’ God with that restless pleadin’ but
Sorry-
Looks like I’m here to stay long as this Earth is still worth leaving.
