How could I forget
That walk up Calvary’s hill
How could I forget
The blood stained garments
The weak body that trembled
And fell beneath the weight
The sins of this world and that cross
How could I forget?
How could I forget
An innocent man punished
Chastised and beatin’
The crowds chanting, “crucify him”
His face bruised and bloodied
Crowds so cruel as Roman soldiers led him
How could I forget?
How could I forget
The large nails that pierced
Tender painful hands and feet
Ripped through flesh and blood
To secure his body to that rugged cross
The crown of thorns plunged into his scalp
How could I forget?
How could I forget
What could of been one moment of kindness
When He said, “I thirst” an hyssop of vinegar
Then in another violent act
A sword tore into his side
And yet an innocent man kind and forgiving
The very Son of God, how could I ever forget??

I kept expecting this to turn from darkness to Salvation. I kind of like that it didn’t, though. It keeps the focus on the horror of the crucifixion as an act against another human being.
Thanks for the comment, yes salvation is the light, the life, and the sweetness of the resurrection is not the suffering but the benefits so great and our hopes that will be made reality. Sorry for focusing so much on the negative!
