“Stop!” A woman screamed from some stairway that Fred have not ventured yet. The boy was on Fred’s leg with his fangs protruding almost on the fabric of his pants. The girl is on the back of Fred with her fangs close to his neck. Fred can smell the horrid stench that is coming from her mouth.
“You leave this poor man alone now!” She pounded on the floor, coming closer when she grabbed both of them and threw them off of Fred.
“I’m so sorry for their rudeness. I didn’t know what was happening before I heard Jessa saying something. Are you okay?” She brought him up from the floor. Jessa and the boy back on the other side of the hall, holding hands with their eyes burning like embers.
“They are very hungry; as you can see.” Her face slacked when she glanced into Fred’s eyes.
“You know like I’ve known. You met her.”
Fred is bemused when she was wondering what she is getting at.
“I’m sorry.” She wiped the cobweb from her right forearm.
“Let me turn on the lights.” She turned them on before he even has a chance to react.
The two children shielded their eyes and hissed at the feel of seeing light in the night.
“They are such bad children. They will be punished for acting out like that.” The woman showered her disappointment at both of them.
“I know someone that knows you. She was living here for a short time. Her name is Nina. She was caring for these children before something else came up and I stopped seeing her. My name is Clara. These are what most vampires call the ‘Bastards of Burden’” She didn’t want to point at the children, for it hurt too much.
Fred looked at the two children with their eyes adjusting to the light. They are still locked in hands.
“How many children are there in this house?”
“There are twenty four children in this house. We have been so hungry.” Clara said when Fred started to see the tears of blood coming out of her eyes.
“What is your name?”
Fred told her when Clara brightened at the sound of that name.
“That is nice name; such a good name!” Clara looked at the two children that came stirring at the wrong place.
“Now up you go. We will go out later for treats.” Clara clapped her hands.
“Oh, but I’m hungry now.” Jessa moaned when Clara smacked her lightly on the butt.
“Now up you go, you too Daniel.” She grabbed Daniel under the armpit when they pattered up the stairs.
“I’m sorry. Would you like some tea?”
“I could go for some. I need a phone too. I have to call someone to know where I am.”
“No! No one should know where we are. Every time that happens, we always have to resettle.” Clara came closer.
“It’s alright. He’s a friend. He probably wants to know where in the hell is his car.”
Clara’s eyes looked like they are being sucked towards the back of her head.
“What is your friend’s name?”
