Running through a field of lilacs
Smelling the sweet scent of rain
How the feeling takes me back
Back to a world without pain.
On I go running to nowhere
Memories I can’t deny
Hoping that I’ll get on to somewhere
And I’ll get there before I die.
Lilacs and daisies sweep gold on my feet
The polishing sweetness of life sprung anew
I run on swifly, like deer so afleet
Through the sea of steaming dew.
The moon overhead, a silvery glow
Like the white-golden hue of the ivory
To a land filled with moonlight and starlight I’ll go
God you know that is where I want to be.
So on I keep running through swirling abyss
of color and water and light
My mind might be hazy, my heart too amiss
But running on now, I take flight.
For I know that when reaching the end of the track
and the pearly gates open before me
I’ll have then no reason for turning aback
and the one there will surly adore me.

I like how the first few lines talk about how a smell can bring on a memory, so true!
