Red, burnt with temper
Orange, glowing with fury
Yellow, shining with delight
The maple trees green leaves
Change as time goes by
As it gets colder, and colder, they glow
More and more fall to the ground each day
Shades of each
Feelings, different from the rest
Maple, trying to understand why it’s leaves are dying
Colder and colder,
The hearts grows colder
The tree limbs grow limp
The heart goes numb.
The lungs start to freeze,
Oxygen getting difficult to breathe
Forcing itself to die out
Just for a winter though right?
Dying out for a season
Just like you.
You remind me of a tree
Seasons come and go
And so do you
You die out for a season
I could never feel alacrity
During these winter months with you
I was ready, but not for the right reasons
I was prepared to call whoever I needed to
You don’t come back until all the snow melts
You worry my heart
You scare me with your texts
You make my smile disappear for a season
I smelt the seasons changing
I could see your eyes from a mile away
Growing more and more grey
The first snow stuck to the ground
That’s when you locked yourself in your room
Disappearing with the leaves for a season.
