I ask you where you’re going
And I just can’t stand not knowing
And you tell me all I need to know
And then go on
And I want you to stop telling
And I don’t wanna know any more
Don’t tell me what your teacher’s name will be
Cause he’ll get to see you and not me
And it never crossed my mind
When they said “will you still try?”
I never thought of any other path
Other than trying to hold onto you from across the country
And why is America so goddamn big
It’s much too big to hold me
Yeah the sweater that is all the states stitched together
Falls off my arms at the sleeves
The way your big old sweatshirts
Do to me
When I wrap myself in them
And wonder if you’re missing me.

I really enjoyed reading this piece. Your thoughts and emotions are powerful, and I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this piece. I could sense your emotions as I read this. The most powerful part for me was, “And it never crossed my mind When they said ‘will you still try?’ I never thought of any other path Other than trying to hold onto you from across the country.” This is extremely powerful—it portrays the power of love.
