By Mike Rodgers
When I was young, my steps were small
And unsteady, so they say.
As I grew older, I walked several paths
Each leading a different way.
I fought the battles, I won and lost
From life’s temptations every day.
When the path I took, turned into flames
A mistake, I most surely had made.
My steps turned silent, my knees became scarred,
As I knelt before my Lord to pray.
Trust in me my son, don’t worry now.
Follow me, I’ll lead the way.
He gave me a wife, she’s the best of my life.
For many years now, we’ve traveled a long way.
Thru ups and downs, and smiles and tears
Together, we’ve managed to stay.
We’ve watched our children, the bad and the good
They’re our children, we proudly do say.
They do things right, they make mistakes and learn,
My lessons from my earlier days.
I now walk slower, much slower in fact,
My decisions, I now, take time to weigh.
Don’t follow the footsteps of my younger years,
Avoid them or else you’ll stray.
Now step by step, and hand in hand
We go thru life, day by day.
I thank you Lord, for what you’ve given me,
And with each footstep, YOU lead the way.
