Labor Day weekend was hot and sunny. Mr. Richardson drove us two hours from Dayton to Sandusky, Ohio where we reached a luxurious hotel. We freshened up in our rooms. For the first evening, we ate dinner at a fancy restaurant. After dinner, Samantha and I relaxed in the jacuzzi downstairs while Michael and Zack swam in the hotel’s olympic sized indoor pool. Father and son laughed hysterically as they splashed each other.
Early the next morning, we drove further into Toledo and arrived at the docks of South Bass Island. From there we boarded a huge ferry. It was Zack’s very first ferry ride ever. He securely held onto his father’s hand as we climbed up to the top deck and found seats near the railing. His eyes lit up with joy as the big boat cruised across Lake Eerie. We reached ashore to the tiny village of Put-in-Bay. Once there, we stepped onto a musical school bus that rode us to Downtown. At Downtown, we rented a golf cart to get us around, which was really thrilling.
We visited a small museum there, where we watched a show about the civil war. Then we took a lot of pictures at a scenic park along the docks. Zack had fun playing on the playground and riding the carousel.
For lunch, Michael treated us all to burgers and ice cream at a local diner. By evening, we rode the tour bus back to the ferry dock, boarded the ferry one last time, then drove back to our hotel. We were thoroughly tired, but ready for our next adventure for tomorrow.
The following morning was Labor Day and the final day of our trip. We packed up our belongings and headed north to Maumee Bay State Park. There we started off by taking a nice long hike on a boardwalk trail in the woods. After that, we went out to the clear beaches of Maumee Bay and built sandcastles with Zack. We enjoyed a late lunch at the jam packed Quilt Lodge. Finally, we drove home and arrived back in Dayton by evening.
I was exhausted after all the different excursions, but in a good way. After this three day sight seeing journey together, our spirits were high. We had all bonded and felt like a real family.
This was a peaceful little passage, however I do wish I saw more of how Jessica interacted with the family. All we read about were the things we did, but honestly I’m much more interested in how the characters interacted with each other.
This chapter was a bit different than the others in that it basically described their vacation. I also believe that the character interactions and personal growth are the most important.
