I look into the eyes of society and i see something missing….there’s a lack of empathy for one another.
We see one another in our respective places, on normal grounds, at casual environments…..
like the working place, the park, on school grounds or as random as, at a subway station. We interact by exchanging little to no words. In most cases, we use non-verbal ways of ‘communicating’, such as a quick glance, which would probably not even be labeled as eye contact, as it barely lasts a second. Why does it take public conflict, such as a discrimination act or gun violence ETC, for us to ‘unite’ and speak our ‘truth’. We say the popular decades worth of sayings like, “we’re all the same”, “we must stand hand in hand to fight injustice” , “we must work together, to see the change we want to see, to be the change we want to see”. Keep in mind, i’m paraphrasing the gazillion words that sing the song of liberation, of unity, of peace. All of the words i have witnessed in public speeches, i’m placing them in forms of sentences to show you all what i repeatedly hear. and yet, after the climax of a public occurrence, whether it’s bad like a tragedy, or good like the elections or a march to bring awareness to a cause, we go about to our normal routine. We ice out the truth of the world, and put up walls of glass to shield ourselves from human connection. We put our masks on when it’s appropriate, and when we come back to our familiar environment, our familiar groups… we walk…talk….think in a distinctive manner, a segregated manner. When i mean segregation, i mean more than the color of our skin, the print of our faith, or the stamp of our culture. I’m talking the segregation of our souls. HUMAN CONNECTION is gradually deteriorating in societies all around the world. We as humans stick with convenience, we stick with effortless change, ironically that’s not change at all. we can’t beat around the bushes and expect to be okay. That is why we are developing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and a weak drive to connect and evolve as human beings. We isolate ourselves by tying our souls to familiarity. We use our electronic devices to inhibit the natural devices in our body….our instincts…our curiosity….our passion… our thirst to learn. When will we rip open the curtains and peak a look outside the crowd……called life. When will we move on from the ‘importance’ of the make-believe world called social media. When will we open our eyes and inform our minds. When will we refresh our hearts by exposing ourselves to the iciness and the warmth of life. For now that is all i have to say.
