So I have an anniversary of sorts coming up on Sunday, so let’s reminisce about what’s changed in the past six years, from Sophomore year of high school to a few months out of college.
-I’ve now had sex
-I no longer want to be an engineer, or a psych major
-I can speak two language (English and American Sign Language)
-3 boyfriends have come and gone
-I proved everyone wrong who thought English majors were stupid, as I got a job right after college
-I pay my own rent
-I live 5 hours away from my parents, with my boyfriend, in an apartment for “young professionals.”
-I’m about 40 pounds heavier
-Definitely have a food addiction, although I suspect I always did, I just played a lot of sports in high school
-I know that religion isn’t for me, and I can’t have a partner who’s super religious
-Back then, I wanted to adopt maybe one kid. Now I definitely want to have two kids of my own, and at least one has to be a daughter
-I know all the marketing lingo. You want me to write up the copy for a slide deck with B2B-focused consumer information? On it.
-I am technically my friend’s boss, and my signature was enough to give her college credit. I was just in that class 6 months ago! And yet I just signed off on the equivalent of like $3000!
-I cry a lot more
-Since that time one of my boyfriends hacked into my online journal and read a mean thing I said about him. Twice. We’re real good friends now tho.
-Impractical Jokers became one of my favorite shows
-6 years ago I’ve never tasted alcohol. I’ve been drunk so many times since then.
-I use finger guns way more often
-I have an entirely new set of friends.
-I wear makeup on the reg!
-I’ve had a poem published in Teen Ink Magazine
-I’ve gotten a speeding ticket
-I actually appreciate my mom. Can you imagine loving someone so much and them just taking you for granted? They don’t mean it, but they don’t know any better. Parenting is hard.
-I have 5 digits in my bank account
-I survived an emotionally abusive relationship. #doggodad idk he’s awful
-I realized cheating is a lot more common than you think it is, and people don’t super care if you have a boyfriend. You gotta be committed to your relationship.
-Definitely hate Kairos. I think it’s a cult.
-I’m on anxiety medication. Life is better for it though.
-420 blaze it
-I have experienced what I think is true heartbreak. Although, maybe time will tell me that that was child’s play
-I watch gaming videos. Like a lot.
-I’ve been out of the country multiple times. The world is so big.
But what hasn’t changed?
-Still playing Diablo 2
-Still thinking about the same boy every once in a while
-never dyed my hair
-I still watch Survivor
-I still don’t care about sports
-My pin pong skills have not improved or gotten worse
-still identify as the same gender, still straight
-still love fries
-Still watching NigaHiga. That guy ages so well
-I’m still pretty sensitive, like, emotionally
A lot has changed. Very little has stayed the same. That’s all for now kids. Just remember that we’ll all change so much, often without even noticing.

I feel bad for you after reading this………
You mentioned at the end that we’ll all change so much, without even noticing.
I’m still the same as I was when I was twelve: mature, jolly, nerdy, corny, high honor roll, moral, semi-social, anti-hipster. I may only be 15, but I feel like I’m 51.
Very thought provoking write, thanks for posting. 🙂
seriously man, just wait. by the time you’re in college you’ll be amazed at how much you’ve matured
Past and present and so many in-betweens, thanks, short span you covered and yet so much accomplished ..I think great and a good article.
