Little India is not like every other roadside shopping outlet but it is a complete mix of different retail experience. Unlike futuristic mega malls which are completely air-conditioned and feature ultra-designer brands Little India is completely the opposite. The street features local, Singaporean and Indian brands that are not only quite reasonable but also quite light on the pockets. As soon as I saw the range of products here, I was sure of going bankrupt. However, to my surprise, I was still left with a good amount of cash on my hand. If you have set out on a tour of Singapore and Malaysia, I would recommend you to visit Little India just hours before you head out to Malaysia. The place is a major Bus boarding point for buses heading to the neighbouring cities.
I had booked my tickets from redbus and the pickup time was at 7:00 pm in the evening. I headed for Little India at about 3:00 pm in the afternoon. If I had to leave a little earlier, the Operator would surely not let me board the Bus as I had about 6 bags after shopping for 4 hours. An hour more and the count would have gone to 10 bags! Quite a few 24-hour shopping centres here sell some wonderful souvenirs for you to take back home for your friends and family. One interesting thing about this place is that there are quite a few Chinese Temples here located alongside the Hindu Temples. This clearly depicts the harmony amongst the people living here.
There are about 3 Operators plying on the route Little India and Ipoh. The One Travel and Tours had about 2 buses plying throughout the day one was at 10:00 am in the morning and the other art 10:45 am. It was the only luxury coach operator between Little India and Ipoh. Being a luxury seeker, I immediately booked my Bus tickets for th 10:45 am slot. The tickets were priced at SGD45 which was a little on the higher side but that is obvious as the range of amenities the Operator offer are much more than what you would get on a regular Bus. Starmart Express had about 4 buses plying throughout the day starting from 11:00 am in the morning till 5:30 pm. If you are one of those, who wake up late in the morning you should book your bus tickets with this Operator. The duration of the journey between the two cities is about 8 hours but if you leave early in the morning or late at night, you should cover this distance in about 6 hours, as you will encounter zero traffic. Tickets with Starmart Express were priced at SGD38 as they had only Executive coaches to offer. Lapan Lapan Travels was the only Operator that had buses plying after 9:30 pm at night. If you are a night traveller, this Operator would serve your purpose and you would reach your destination in a much lesser time. The tickets with this Operator were priced at SGD40.
