Everyone waits patiently, in this room. Dirty, dark; dingy 60’s carpet. Torn pink drapes cover hard water stained windows. A large wooden industrial spool commands center audience.
“Where’s sanity?” my wife, Love, anxiously blurts.
“I don’t know, babe. Glutton and Envy are out looking for him now. Don’t worry. We will make it to to endocrinologist before noon with plenty of time to spare.” I respond nervously.
” Has he been examining those weird yellow crystal like shrooms again?” Finance and Jealousy mutter to them selves.
The front, obvious outward, door barges open with intense intention. In comes Glutton, awkwardly carrying a large diameter tree limb over his shoulder. Followed behind is Sanity tied to the oaken birch. Like a pig tied to a spit. Carrying the other side of the limb is Envy. Cautiously keeping his distance from Sanity’s face.
Sanity’s face is estranged in a gaze. Seemingly, unable to blink. His eyes too big to be normal. Typical size of that of a grey alien. Too large and over proportionate for his face. Pupils massively dilated. A thin but long yellow ring, like an iris, encompasses the glazed gazing eery eyes. A chill shocks its way down Adam’s spine. Tingling every nerve, and tip, and inch of his body.
“What the fuck guys?! What happen?!” I, Adam, project.
“We found him whispering to some weird yellow crystal mushroom.” Glutton answers.
“…wwwwwaaaaaaaooooooouuuuu…….” A soft noise winds its way out of Sanity’s mouth. A soft noise but a lot of movement from his mouth.
“Put him in the room for now” I respond.
A door materializes behind them. Glutton and Envy struggle the weight of Sanity awkwardly tied to the tree limb into the sudden appeared room.
“Sorry guys, I’ll have to deal with this later. I have some where to b-….” I try to rush out, but cut off by stammering and rustling in the room behind me. The door slowly creeps open with a eery squeal. Sanity slowly squeezes himself out. Trying hard to close the door behind him. Preventing others from peering into the room. His holding a gun. Looks old world war style.
He eerily, hunched, stumbles his way next to me. I stand on one side of the spool, Sanity in the other. He limps the weight of the gun slowly waving it around. Pointing at everyone and nothing in the room.
“You ok?” I ask.
Sanity locks eyes with me. He leans over. I some how feel tidal locked with him. I lean too. Keeping eye contact, still leaning over. Losing contact only as the horizon of the spool intercepts the awkward sway. The precipice crosses as Sanity and My eyes meet under the tables edge. His normal bright cerulean eyes have returned.
“Get out, now.” Sanity struggles to get out.
Chills shoot down my spine again. Just then the eery Alien eyes return. We both are still locked in this leaning hold with one another.
Sanity draws the gun under the table, firing one round into it.
Angrily I respond to the gun fire.
“Not cool bro, what the fuck?!”
Sanity with his alien eyes lock to mine. I feel something. A sense of dread. Like seeing the eyes of a predator, telling me they are going to eat me, while taking their time to kill me.
We slowly lean back straight. My heart beating rapidly. My thoughts recur Sanity’s warning before the alien eyes. To leave now.
I slowly walk backwards towards the door. Opening it, not losing eye contact the entire time. Everyone in the room stunned and shocked by the situation. I exit the building. From the outside it looks like a run down fishing bait shack. Multiple vehicles parked outside. I recognize the closest one as mine.
Just before the door closes, still maintaining eye contact, I stop. I slowly make my way back in. I turn my head, breaking eye contact. I can still feel the gaze, burning holes into my face.
“Babe, lets go. NOW!” I dominate with my voice.
With out hesitation, and too afraid to make eye contact with Sanity, my wife stands up and with scared steps fearfully walks towards me.
We both make our way out of the building and to the car. I open the door for her. She is in such fear, tears are too scared to come out. Before i even get her door closed, I hear gunshots inside the building. I look up to see blood splatter on the windows. I rush to the drivers door. I get in and slam the gearshift into drive.
Too fast exiting the parking lot. I dont see the dog blocking the exit. I swerve to miss it, only to over steer the vehicle, flipping it onto its roof. Sliding into the middle of a not busy country road. Surrounded by trees and nature. Upside down i can hear the echoes of the gunshot repeating over and over.
I’m delirious and a little fuzzy. I can hear my wife screaming in fear. Yes we’re upside down.
“This is why I was trying to fucking lose weight! Now I’m stuck! Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuuuuuuck!” She clammers.
Sanity’s face draws in from the top of the bottom window. Coming into my peripherals.
“…….waaaaaaoooouuuuuuu……” eery Sanity softy says.
He raises the military pistol and aims at my wife. And with no hesitation pulls the trigger.
“Nooooooo!” I scream while waking up.
