Roller coasters are perhaps my favorite amusement park ride. These rides have come a long way from their inception back in the nineteenth century. The first roller coaster was created in 1885, and came directly from the design for the Switchback Railway that had opened in Coney Island, New York, the year before.
Perhaps this roller coaster did not undergo the rigorous testing or was subject to the strict design standards of the modern roller coaster. There were no safety switches, precision bearings, or computer generated design back in those days. However, since then, the amusement has gone on to become a powerful machine, and there are some fabulous and fantastically fast roller coaster rides, these days, in various locations around the world, not least of all in some of the most famous theme parks such as Disneyland and Disney World.
