Colors can change the sky, beauty of a house, change the mood of a picture, mostly though the color without your love changed my heart, shades of blue!
As a queen
Vows and love
nothing between
all we wanted was us
you so lovely and sweet
what a beautiful shade of blue
Children we gave our time
we loved them both
something not the same
still in our prime
seemed somewhere love behind
different shade of blue, tainted by pain
Grew apart reasons unknown
hardly kissed, hardly made love
both more time alone
hearts bitter, times tough
both in ways wanted what we lost
bad mixture, shades of blue!
Color of us
bristles the brush ugly
as the blue dirty
nothing of what was
a blue that was now faded
in my heart a blue I hated
Canvas once lovely
color of two hearts one
picture changed abruptly
feelings now as none
wish a fresh color, start a new
instead of weary, shades of blue
Finally the day you left
a dark blue pitted my stomach
alone I slept
color now not much
you’re memory only cleft
now you’re gone only color I know, is blue!

This reminds me so much of the song “Colors” by Halsey – I’m not sure if this was inspiration from it but the theme is very similar and revolves around the color blue as well. I like how you fit a whole story into one poem and how each stanza goes through a different time passing. The premise of falling in love and connecting a color to that person, and then eventually falling out of love and having the color represent the opposite is a great premise and I think you did a good job with this. I would love to see even more of this poem, possibly an expansion? It seemed to go kind of quick. Great job!
Thank you for your comment, I don’t know that song and don’t believe I’ve ever heard it. I have heard the phrase “shades of grey” that I suppose is a little of the inspiration for the title and the feeling of ‘blue’ when sad concerning a relationship. Maybe an expansion if the words come to me, again thanks.
