They tell you to be quiet, but that makes you want to shout.
They make you mad how they don’t let you live like normal human beings.
They tell you they have more power, but they overuse it.
They tell you to listen to them because they are adults when you are more mature than them.
They tell you to be fair, yet they choose obvious favorites.
They disrespect you, yet expect respect.
They verbally abuse you, until you breakdown in tears.
And even then, they treat you like a lesser person.
They are Evil.
They are Extended Day Program(Prison) Teachers.

This is such a true and honest prose? poem? I always felt, like you, that respect is a two way track, and if there is none coming your way, you don’t have the obligations to treat you with respect either. I especially like the distinction of pronouns of “they,” because it creates a collective, invisible unified force and the sole individualistic “you.” The contradictions of every action in each line gives this piece such rhythm, for both is poetic nature and its songlike melody. I especially think that your ending line of naming exactly who “they” are and giving them direct blame by giving them their roles and names show the climax of your anger at its height. Although all the other lines have the actions of this collective “they” the reader is rather blind to who this is directly referring to the end, giving more power and agency to the “you.”
Amazing piece, and I hope that these people, if they are real, can recognize that you aren’t a “lesser person” and if they don’t ever recognize that, it’s truly their loss because you clearly aren’t and this is coming from a stranger who only read one piece of work from you. And as log as you know your worth, their opinions of you shouldn’t alter that. All the best 🙂
Thank you so much for the feedback! I am so glad that you like my piece! This piece was driven by built up anger at a few teachers at the Extended Day Program I go to!
Again, I’m so glad you like it and I love hearing your feedback!
You voiced your opinion and I think that is very awesome! Don’t hide your thoughts speak them! And that is what you did. Have you read, “A Soldier’s Prayer”?
No, I have not read “A Soldier’s Prayer” but I will look for it!
