The more things we own, the more colorful our life will be, they say. But will it? What color do the things of this world bring? The things of solid forms, and the things of wood and steel? Tell me, what is the difference between a poor man and a rich man? One has much and one has none, yes this is true. But how do you know the one who has much is rich in things of value?
A man who is rich lives an a luxurious abode, filled with floors of purest marble, and lined with halls of gold and silver. Six stories tall; it reaches the clouds of heaven! But when the man climbs to his lofty balcony, he feels no Divine presence close to his body or soul. He has servants of all kinds; they do his bidding at his command. But they are not there for his moral support; they are only present for the wages he pays. They are like robots with flesh and bones, and show no sympathy or human feeling when he is hurt or lonely. He wears the finest of linens, and the finest of gems, yet within all his riches, he still finds room for complaint! His robe has a small hole, or maybe his tea isn’t quite right. Maybe his dinner is made a minute too late, or the weather doesn’t suit his mood for the day. Yet he has everything, everything he could ever have to fill any void! Why the dissatisfaction?
A poor man who embraces his poverty, finds a treasure that can fill any earthly void. It is just that! The emptiness he maintains and cherishes his whole life, leaves room for him to seek the imperishable and eternal. He is like the child, who chases a rainbow; it cannot be touched with his two hands, but he can see it with his two, pure eyes. He believes there is gold at the end… He believes… He believes… And when he reaches the end of his holy life, he finds the heavenly gold in the homeland he diligently searched for. This man had no room for rotting riches; he had a higher prize in mind…
