Ghost town
Wrapped in
Spider webs
Hiding wires and
Telephone poles
The wind pushing back,
Against these old screen doors
No people going to and from stores or
Opening and closing their southern doors
Houses devoured by wild weeds and shrubs
Nobody cares and no signs allowed
Condemned buildings and broken homes
Why did Hurricane Katrina not leave us alone
When families are torn from their wombs
You exposed this poverty
In my backyard and
We cannot push back anymore, because
We are the canaries in the mines
