Magic I see in words, an urge, to create.
Hope, for my creation, and me.
Making music, that is silent.
Putting emotion, where it can be seen.
My poetry has purpose. This is true.
Calming, the torrent in my mind.
Helping me remember, to breathe.
Bringing beauty, to others, I hope.
A compulsion, a drive, a madness.
Words that must come out.
Words that must be read.
I let go, and it overtakes me.
I write and find peace in the carnage,
of my brain, instead of torment.
Ideas flooding in, hands working,
to record the magical chaos.
Rhythm’s racing through.
Syllables, rhymes, lines,
images and thoughts, trying,
to get on to the paper.
Then I look at my creation, and hope,
that others will see it too.
That they will see my music,
in these words, that I must write.

I love the rollercoaster of emotions that you depicted so eloquently in this piece. There is this desperation, longing, and so much optimism in these lines that these words have an agency of their own. I totally understand the “A compulsion, a drive, a madness.” to write, because as aspiring writer and an avid reader, there is the need to say something, without quite knowing what. I think that has been captured in this piece.
I know that this piece is about writing, which is always so fun to read. It’s already beautiful on its own, but maybe you could write about the process of writing itself; how it goes beyond the compulsion, but translating those thoughts into coherent words. I think that addition would capture the range of emotions of being a writer in a complete sense, and it would add something external that goes outside of our head.
Thank you for the great feedback. I like your suggestion. Perhaps I can come up with another stanza. Thanks! 🙂
I’m adding another stanza to the poem, I hope you’ll let me know what you think! Thanks!
That’s so exciting! Let me know when you do!
It’s in there now. 🙂
I love the new addition. It almost reads like I am literally hearing music. It’s quite magical how words read in my mind can be heard as a song. Looking forward to reading all your other works!
So glad you liked it. I hope you like my other stuff too! Thanks for reading! 🙂
I love it. Makes me feel, makes me think. BTW – are there any short stories or other types of literature here?
